Coast Sponsored Missionaries Around The World
Coast is committed to following the Biblical mandate of taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to our local community, our nation, and the world. In that effort Coast has, since it began, joyfully sponsored full time missionaries who are "on the field" in various parts of the world. We also try to venture out with groups on a variety of short-term missions around the globe every year. Some of the work we have done includes:
Each year, we try to provide a choice of short-term mission trips and invite you to come with us. Your life will never be the same! Give us a call to find out more.
Cheri Thompson went to Kenya in 1987 with her husband, Rick, and three children. In 1992 she began working with street children started The Challenge Ministry in the slums of Nairobi. In 1999, after adopting two Kenyan orphans, they moved to Kitale, Kenya. She and Rick started a Sunday morning Bible Club and soccer club. They expanded to a drop in center where over 50 street kids would come to get a hot meal, medical care, and learn about the love of Jesus. In 2000, they bought a ten-acre farm. Before they could fully develop it, Rick was diagnosed with cancer and died ten months later, May 2001. Cheri continued the work and opened Challenge Farm in January 2003. Currently 195 children are residents of the center. Cheri has five children, three from her late husband Dr. Richard Thompson and two that they adopted from Kenya. She divides her time between Kitale, Kenya and North Carolina. Her time in the U.S. is spent fundraising and public speaking. She is known in Kitale as “Mama Cheri” for her deep love for Africa and the African people."

The Haneys also have a son, Ryan who lives in Pensacola, FL.
The Hawthornes - Southeast Asia
This husband and wife team work in an area where, due to the sensitive nature of their work and the culture and laws of the country in which they live, they must protect their identity and purpose for being there. Their work focuses on equiping local pastors with training and church planting. They also have been "training the trainers" working in several southeast asian countries, multiplying the effectiveness of their efforts.
Just know that they need your prayers and support just as much as any other missionary. The Lord knows who they are.
Missionary to Costa Rica
At the age of 4, Cherie started working in the nursery at her church and has always loved working with children. She was raised in a Christian home with parents that were very mission minded. She felt called to the mission field in her early 20's and had been taking mission trips since then. It was about that time she dreamed about a group of children in a room and knew from that time on that she would be working in an orphanage. She currently has a children's home in Costa Rica called "Residence of Life". She has 10 children in that home and is planning to open another home by the end of the year to house 10 more. Her goal is 10 homes with 10 children each.
